Most skin cancer cases are diagnosed in people older than 65, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, is most frequently diagnosed among adults ages 65-74. Fortunately, the earlier skin cancer is detected, the better your chance of beating it! Approximately 82.5% of melanoma cases are diagnosed at stage 1 before the cancer has spread to other parts of the body; for these cases, the five-year survival rate is 99.4%.2

Our frame system is designed to withstand the toughest conditions, including wind, rain and even the harsh UV rays of the sun. Frames are made of solid white Polycarbonate and formulated with UV protection additives to provide superior protection from harmful UV rays. Custom frame colors are available with larger orders. The polycarbonate material used in our frames is also known as Lexan, and it is used in hockey rinks and safety glasses for its unparalleled durability.
Our tough Polycarbonate frame makes it ultra-tough and long-lasting. It is easy to clean, never needs painting, and it's portable, you can even use it safely over your in-pool, lounge chair. Or, commercial users like hotels, resorts and cruise ships may choose our powder-coated aluminum models or a combination of both PC and aluminum. We also offer special brackets that you can customize to attach to your in-pool lounge chair, ensuring the perfect fit for every unique need.
Did you know, The UV Oasis sunshade can be used for 3 different applications. As we stated above, The UV Oasis lets you control the amount of direct ultraviolet (tanning) rays you receive from the sun better and more effectively, thus allowing you to extend the duration of your outdoor, poolside, or beach activities. The shade materials have been lab tested and certified supporting our claims to the UV ratings of our closed UPF 50 + rated shade and open weave vinyl coated nylon fabrics.
Our proven, weather-resistant closed weave blocks 93% of the direct rays. Or choose from our open-weave nylon fabrics and block 70% of the sun's UVA and UVB rays. The open weave effectively doubles your time poolside, on the beach, or outdoors. At the same time, the closed screen allows you to remain outside virtually all day long according to Dr. Goldstein's testimonials (shown below) after extensive lab and field testing. Because our shade is mesh and aerodynamic shaped, the breeze flows over, under, and through it on breezy days and your shade stands strong.
Makena Resort in Maui said this about its stability in high winds: "They have proven to be stable under the worst conditions. The maintenance of the product is minimal. And on a hot day, our guest will choose to sit on the lounge chairs with the Body Lenz over the chairs without them"
Your time outdoors is spent more comfortably, not baking in the sun and exposing yourself to the pain and damage from sunburns.
What does it mean, direct or reflected UV Rays?
No shade structure can completely shield you from indirect exposure to UV radiation, the type that occurs when UV rays bounce off of reflective surfaces like water, sand, concrete and even snow. Under a beach umbrella, you may be receiving less direct UV radiation, but you’re still surrounded by sand that is reflecting UV rays on all sides of your beach chair or blanket. Because of these limitations, shade isn’t enough to protect you. This is true with UV-Oasis too, we make it easier to block the direct rays better so you can relax. Remember the combined use of a high SPF sunblock and shade protection is your best choice. https://www.skincancer.org/blog/healthy-skin-made-in-the-shade/

“When you are outside, think of shade as your refuge, especially between 10 AM and 4 PM, the peak hours of sun intensity”. “There is no such thing as a healthy UV tan. Whether you’re laying out on the beach or in a tanning bed, the damage your skin sustains can lead to skin aging and potentially deadly skin cancer,” says Deborah S. Sarnoff, MD, president of The Skin Cancer Foundation.
Published excerpt from article in Skincancer.org
"All-around protection. Sunscreen is crucial but it alone is not enough". “I try to stay in the shade as much as possible and wear a wide-brim hat whenever I’m going to be in the sun for an extended period of time.”

If an increased risk of skin cancer isn’t enough of a reason to steer clear, indoor tanning also contributes to premature skin aging. That means wrinkles, leathery skin, sagging, and age spots. Still can’t resist that bronzed look? Optfor sunless self-tanners or spray tans. These are available in many forms, including lotions, sprays, and creams.
The Skin Cancer Foundation advocates that no tan is a safe tan, and that regardless of whether women decide to go with their own glow or use sunless tanning methods, they avoid UV tanning.

It’s a fact: Skin cancer affects people of all colors. Even if you have a darker skin tone, always tan or rarely burn, you can still develop the disease. What’s more, for people of color, skin cancer is often diagnosed later, when it is harder to treat. This includes people of African, Asian, Latino, Mediterranean, Middle Eastern and Native American descent.
Simply put, if you have skin, you can get skin cancers. These include the nonmelanoma skin cancers like basal cell carcinoma (BCC), squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) as well as melanoma. Furthermore, ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun can cause dangerous, lasting damage to your skin.
Since you’re on The Skin Cancer Foundation’s website, you likely know these basics: Wear sunscreen every single day — sunny or cloudy, summer or winter, autumn or spring. As long as you can see daylight, the rays being emitted by our planet’s number-one star are hitting your skin. For your extended outdoor activities, use sunscreens with a sun protection factor, or SPF, of at least 30. The label should read “broad spectrum” to confirm that the product protects against the most harmful known types of ultraviolet (UV) radiation: UVB rays, which largely cause sunburn, as well as UVA rays, which are associated with tanning and premature aging but can also lead to sunburn. Both types of UV rays can cause damage to DNA in skin cells, and both contribute to skin cancer.

Sunburn is an inflammatory reaction to ultraviolet (UV) radiation damage to the skin’s outermost layers. At the heart of it all is melanin, a pigment that gives your skin its color and defends it against the sun’s rays. Melanin works by darkening your unprotected sun-exposed skin. The amount of melanin you produce is determined by genetics, which is why some people get sunburned while others tan. Both are signs of cellular damage to the skin. For people with less melanin, prolonged unprotected sun exposure can cause skin cells to become red, swollen and painful, also known as sunburn. Sunburns can range from mild to blistering.
After sunburn, your skin may start to peel. This is a sign that your body is trying to rid itself of damaged cells. Never try to peel the skin yourself; let it come off naturally. Learn more about treating a sunburn below.
While skin cancer is the most common cancer in the world, very few cases develop in children. “It’s less common than in adults,” says Anne Marie McNeill, MD, a board-certified dermatologist practicing in Newport Beach, California. “But it can and does occur. There are only about 400 new cases per year in our country, but the incidence is increasing.”
Dr. McNeill points out that melanoma, one of the most dangerous forms of skin cancer, is the second most common cancer in people aged 15 to 29, and that children are at a higher risk for melanoma than other skin cancers. Risk factors for childhood melanoma include genetic predisposition and family history, so melanoma-prone families should take special care. Each person with a first-degree relative diagnosed with melanoma has a 50 percent greater chance of developing the disease than people who do not have a family history of the disease.
Remember, 1 in 5 Americans have skin cancer and most didn't know.
