Why We Choose Polycarbonate (PC) for our ground and shade support structures. We don’t settle for "standard" plastic. We use Polycarbonate with UV additives, the toughest plastic available, to ensure your furniture stands up to the harshest elements. Strength of Steel (Without the Weight) While steel is often seen as the industry standard , Polycarbonate offers unique advantages for these key components: Weight Efficiency: PC is roughly 200 times stronger than steel by weight. The portions where we use powder-coated aluminum or steel are for flex strength in the case of our shade frames and curved shade support. We optimized our materials choices for maxium strength, and exposure to the elements. An example of this choice is in-pool usage. Metal frames often struggle with pool chemicals, leading to paint peeling or oxidation. Our Polycarbonate frames eliminiate that problem. :

Frames are made of solid white Polycarbonate and formulated with UV protection additives to provide superior protection from harmful UV rays. Custom frame colors are available with larger orders. The polycarbonate material used in our frames is also known as Lexan, and is used in hockey rinks and safety glasses for its unparalleled durability.
Our tough polycarbonate frame makes it ultra-tough and long-lasting. It's easy to clean, never needs painting, and it's portable - you can even use it safely over your in-pool lounge chair. Our shade materials have been lab tested and certified, supporting our claims to the UV ratings of our closed UPF 50 + rated shade and open weave vinyl-coated nylon fabrics.

What does direct or reflected UV Rays mean?
No shade structure can completely shield you from indirect exposure to UV radiation, the type that occurs when UV rays bounce off of reflective surfaces like water, sand, concrete and even snow. Under a beach umbrella, you may be receiving less direct UV radiation, but you’re still surrounded by sand that is reflecting UV rays on all sides of your beach chair or blanket.
